We were in Norman Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago for a football game. Husband is a big Ohio State Buckeye fan and I like a good time so it all works for us. lol We usually travel to one away game a year and this year it was Ok. We had a great time, never met nicer people than the folks we met in Norman. Very welcoming. Anyone who follows football knows that there are some places your team plays that you just are not made to feel welcome, not so in Norman.
They block off streets downtown and it has a fair type atmosphere. People everywhere. The funny thing was they aren’t quite like the Buckeye fans, we start our tailgates as early in the morning as possible, the folks in Norman start a little closer to game time. We were good to go at 9a for a 7p game, the folks in Norman started around noon but really didn’t get into it till after 2p. The folks we rented our tailgate spot from couldn’t believe when we told them we would arrive at 9a, we were told most of the locals start coming at 2p.
Our first morning we had a wonderful breakfast at Syrup. Great food, I had the pancake sliders and iced coffee.
We had dinner at Cafe Escondido. My goodness you can’t beat it. I love tamales and the ones I had here were excellent plus you get free sopapillas with honey at the end of your meal. We had great food every where we ate. We had breakfast at a local place our second morning, called Juan Del Fuego’s, husband prides himself on his pancakes and he thought the ones we had here were better than his. We had lunch one day at the Garage, again great service, wonderful people and excellent food.
And we had to stop by Toby Keith’s grill for a cocktail.
You may notice that the pictures of me were taken at home instead of on game day. Well husband and I had a breakdown in communication. lol He is my photographer and on game day as we were leaving our hotel I told him “don’t forget I need pictures taken of me for the blog”. Well I got pictures that day, but none of me. lol I will say though in his defense he was sick. Both of us had to go to an urgent care while we were in Norman, I had sinus and allergies, he had either walking pneumonia or bronchitis. I say either because the NP said it was pneumonia, the doctor said bronchitis after we got home.
All in all it was a great trip and a part of the country I look forward to going back to.
Till next time.
