Mother: Aren’t grandchildren the best?? Between my husband and I we have eight grandchildren and two great grandsons. I am not sure I have mentioned this before but children are not my thing. lol I am not someone who is fascinated by pregnancy, I don’t want to touch a pregnant ladies baby bump to feel it kick, baby showers and baby items hold no interest for me, first steps, first words I can let this stuff just whiz over my head. But my grandchildren mean the world to me. And once they are toddlers and start saying words, moving on their own, becoming little people I am in heaven. lol
I remember when my son and his wife told us they were expecting. All I could think of was they are too young, they haven’t been married long enough, there place is too small. lol The night my first grand baby was born we had been at the hospital for hours, the doctor ended up doing a c-section, and I am not sure during this process how I felt. But then the nurse came and told us we could see the baby, I took one look in that little plastic bassinet and I had so much love wash over me that even now 28 years later thinking about it makes me tear up.
I worried that I wouldn’t have enough love to go around if my son had more children or if daughter had babies. And when daughter said she was expecting I almost panicked. Not only was I unsure about another grandchild, I was worried about my daughter. I fussed and fretted and worried, and I did this for years because she had three babies. She always said if she had decided to have a fourth she wouldn’t have told me till it was delivered, she would have let me believe she was gaining weight. lol And then my husbands daughters started having babies and it began again.
With grandchildren I get all of the good. They love to see me because Nana usually has treats. Hubby gets his nose out of joint sometimes because the grands think all gifts and treats come from Nana. lol One of the little darlings told him that she knew Nana did the shopping so all presents come from Nana. Which I have to say did make him pick up his game when it comes to shopping, at least for the boys.
Our grand babies range in age from 28 down to the newest one who is 10 months, and the greats are 7 and 4. All good, fun ages, all the better for Nana and PawPaw to enjoy and spoil.
How many grandchildren do you have?
