Mother: Luke 2:11, “For unto to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” Yes, this is the true beginning of our season of renewal. With out the birth of the Christ child renewal in any sense of the word would not be possible.
I remember when I put the birth and the crucifixion together. I was much older than I should have been when this happened. I was raised in the Lutheran church, Sunday school and church every Sunday, and when I was 13, confirmation classes. It was Easter Sunday and our student Pastor was giving the sermon and he read Luke 2:11 and proceeded to talk about the birth and death of our Lord. It was like a bell went off in my head, ding, ding, ding, had I not been paying attention up till now?? How had I missed the fact that the baby that was born was the same as the man who was crucified?
At this time of year everything starts feeling new again. Trees are budding, birds are singing, the sun shines more, and God feels so much closer to us. As our spirits lift and we look forward to new beginnings, let us not forget that a Sacrifice was made so we could all be renewed.
Daughter: Easter and Spring will forever go hand in hand. Easter signifying the rising of Jesus, my Savior! He took all my ugliness onto Himself so that I could be made new, brand new! How totally awesome is that??!! Whoa!! Ok, give me a minute, I was just taken back by my own words!!………………………Ok, back to my post, lol!
At the end of winter, when I look around, to be honest, all I see is ugly, everything looks, well, dead. The grass is trying to recover from the snow and cold looking all dark and bare in spots. The trees are only bare branches with no decoration at all. No color is found anywhere except for the evergreens but they don’t count because they are ever green!! hehehe Then one day…..I hear them……I listen closely just to be sure, and sure enough I’m right…..I hear the frogs!!!! Then the next morning, I hear the birds!! It is all music to my ears! My heart skips a beat knowing it is finally here, spring has finally arrived!! Then the Easter Lillies appear, they are always such a beautiful site after a long cold winter!
I absolutely love everything about spring even down to spring cleaning! It’s a time to start fresh in every shape and form! I’m already picking out new paint colors to freshen up the inside and making plans for flower gardens outside. I’m ready to open my windows and let the warm spring breeze bring all the dust bunnies out of hiding so I can scoop them up and set them free! I’m ready to set out in the sun and feel the warmth of it on my face! And have I mentioned the smell of fresh cut grass….wowzer!!
I guess what I’m trying to convey is this, with Easter comes a time of renewal, a fresh start, to start all over again! And the miracle that we each, so graciously, get to partake in, watching the very scenery right in front of us transform into a magnificent work of art that only God can create! Well, it simply takes my breath away! That God, each year, takes the ugliness and turns it into the most beautiful thing ever! My, on my, how very blessed we are!
I hope that each and everyone of you have a blessed Easter and that you are able to take some time to reflect on the true gift we’ve been give through Jesus Christ!
** Many thanks to my beautiful daughter for the pictures included in this post! And Nana seconds that, great job.
