Mother: When you travel do you know how to pack lightly? I have read everything I can find and watched numerous Youtube videos on packing and still can’t manage to get it done. My favorite video is “How to Pack 100 things in a carry-on”. I can not tell you how many times I have watched this video. It does help when packing to roll your clothes I have found, but for whatever reason, my things are not going to fit in a carry-on.
For those that follow the blog, you know the husband, and I are in Fl for two and a half months. Packing for that length of time as you can imagine was a challenge. When we travel by car and are not staying in a hotel, we usually pack in a laundry basket. This trip because I knew we were going to be gone so long I knew I would need extras, so I put my clothing in a storage tub.
Not knowing what the weather was going to be like even though husband had been checking it on a regular basis, I wasn’t sure what I would need. As you can imagine this led to what I thought was over packing. On day two after our arrival, I realized my packing left a lot to be desired. Let me list some of my shortcomings with my packing.
Shoes: Since I have multiple pairs of shoes this should have been easy. Thinking to pack lightly in this department I only brought five pairs of tennis shoes, two pairs of sandals, one pair of booties and a pair of flip-flops. What made me pack a pair of booties I have no idea, I rarely wear any of the five pairs I have when I am home why would I wear them in Florida? The pair of tennis shoes, when I say tennis shoes I mean Keds, I thought would go with everything is new and they don’t fit. They came in two days before we left and I didn’t bother trying them on till I got here and they are too big. The shoes being too big puts me down a pair of shoes and the most important pair. So I had to go shopping for shoes which just means I have more to pack when we come home, not a win-win.
Tops: What I was thinking when I packed tops is anyone’s guess. Somehow I ended up here with five solid white t-shirts. Out of all of the clothing that I have why I would bring five solid white t-shirts? Like the booties, this type of shirt is something I rarely wear. At home lounging in my closet are probably twenty colored and graphic t-shirts, and none of them made it to Florida. It has been cool to cold here in our part of Florida and can you guess how many long sleeve tops I brought? Two, two long sleeve shirts and they are long, so the only thing they look good with are my leggings. This slip on my part meant another shopping trip which also means more to pack when heading home.
Pants: When it came to packing bottoms for our trip I think I was going with the thought if a few pairs will do then a bunch will do better. There is no way I would need as many pants as I have here. I have five pairs of jeans, five pairs of casual pants, four pairs of capris’ and two pairs of leggings. I guess the upside of this is I have a bunch of white tees that will go with all of them and I won’t have to worry about buying more.
Bras and Panties: Again anyone that follows the blog knows I have issues with finding bras that fit. And when it comes to bras and panties all I wear is beige and white, and my bras and panties match. Well, they match when I am home now because I only brought one pair of white panties but three white bras I am not matchy-matchy every day. Hopefully, I won’t have to go to the hospital for any reason with mismatched undies on.
Jackets/sweater: A home run was hit with this. Knowing it was going to be cool, I brought three jackets, a hooded sweatshirt, and a long black sweater.
None of this packing wrong is new for me. A few years ago I went to Vegas in March. The weather in Columbus was still cold and snowy, but in Vegas, temps were in the mid to high 80’s. I just pulled out my summer things washed and packed them. When I got to Vegas, I realized I had forgotten to take into account the fifteen pounds I had put on over the winter. Every morning and evening was a chore trying to find something that matched and fit. But at least I can say I did have shoes that went with what did fit. And there was no way I was going to spend gambling money on new clothes.
The hard part with all the extra I have had to buy here is telling husband why I need another container to get my things back home.
Until next time.
