Mother: Do you ever end up down a rabbit hole? You start out, for instance, looking for a pair of comfortable walking shoes and the next thing you know you are checking out cruises to Bora Bora. Three hours have passed, and you have ten pages open on your computer and still have no idea on walking shoes.
My day can start out so promising and then down that rabbit hole I go. After I check my email account and my Facebook, I go to my blog email account. If I haven’t gotten lost on Facebook, then it is a sure bet I will in my blog email. With Facebook, it is all of those ads they put on there of things I might like. If you have Googled anything, the next thing you know whatever you were looking for is on your Facebook page.
With my blog email, I start by reading other folks blogs. It doesn’t take much to get me off my course. A new linky party I haven’t seen before so off I go. Or a blog I follow has partnered with someone, and I have to check out the new blog. And heaven forbid that one of the blogs has a dress or shoes or purse that I like. That sends me off on a shopping expedition.
Maybe I just have a short attention span. We have something on our computer called Last Pass that saves our passwords. Last evening I wanted to comment on Twitter but couldn’t remember my password. I went to Last Pass to find the password and found out I have eight Twitter accounts. To start with I had no idea I had this many accounts, so I had to check them all out. By the time I found the correct account I had forgotten what I wanted to Tweet.
It is all a vicious cycle. No matter what I am doing on any given day, I will go down the rabbit hole. If I start out shopping for shoes, it can become looking at houses for sale. If I am making a recipe, the next thing I know I am on Amazon checking ingredients. There is never a straight line from beginning to end of anything I decide to do. There are nights I look at the clock at 11 pm and realize I have completed nothing I started.
To make my point as I sit here writing this, I have five pages open on my computer. I have been reading Jodie’s blog, J touch of style , about athletic capris’, and she has two different shoes mentioned on her page. Not only did I look at the shoes she featured I then had to check out all of the shoes that are on the website. I then glance at the clock and realize I have fifteen minutes to get to an appointment. Where did my morning go? There I was down that rabbit hole again.
How about you do you if not careful end up with nothing completed? Does your day get away from you if you aren’t careful?
